A bomb threat here in bucolic Chapel Hill. I can't believe it.
My colleague and I saw police officers outside of our window, walking the perimeter between our house and the (more important) one next door, which houses the president of the university system. Y'all might know him as Erskine Bowles.
Another colleague has just come in to say that the bomb threat was made against a TTA bus; of course they don't know which one so all of them have been evacuated, effectively shutting down service in Chapel Hill/Durham/Raleigh. This is no small thing, of course. The cops were walking the perimeter because there is a bus sitting empty just outside of the president's house. Thanks for the heads up, fellas. Hmmph.
Disconcertingly, the first thing I think is not that there is a bomb threat (!), but that whomever called this in is planning something worse and this fake out is only their initial foray. My friend tells me she's becoming a misanthrope. Who isn't?

Ahh, that explains why there was a TTA bus stopped on the Durham Freeway this morning, the driver standing a couple of hundred yards away.

There was a bomb threat at my school when I was but a boy. It was a good excuse for a half-day off.
