Treatment of war veterans has a long and shameful history in our country, and as many others have noted ( e.g. http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0328-11.htm ) "Support the Troops!" is usually nothing but barely disguised code for "Support Me!" if uttered by a prowar politician, or "Support my prowar politictian" if uttered by one of us lesser public servants. The conditions at Walter Reed represent the face of war the politicians don't wish us to see. Ambitious ones (G.W.B. included) too often worry about things like "glory" and "legacy" and it's hard to imagine anything less glorious or worthy of grand historical legacy than a hospital. ("Dulce et decorum est..." may be fine in poetry, but there's nothing sweet or fitting about having your God-given colon replaced by a man-made ostomy.) Another argument against those who spend too much time thinking of glory and legacy (and not enough about being a humanitarian).

Wonder how often Bush has visited the wounded at Walter Reed.

What, you say he's too busy?

F*cking Rat Bastard.
