Karr Cleared in JonBenet Case -- After 10 Million Articles.
After two weeks of frenzied and often jump-to-conclusions media coverage, Colorado prosecutors on Monday dropped their case against John Mark Karr over the 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey.
Prosecutors threw out the case after DNA tests failed to place Karr at the crime scene despite reports he had confessed to killing the six-year-old.
A Google search for "John Mark Karr," who was unknown until this month, came up with 10,800,000 results at the time of latest twist. "John Mark Karr Ramsey" produced 6.7 million returns.
An Associated Press article late Monday referred to how "a hyperactive press went into overdrive, eager to pronounce guilt." It also noted that the AP and other news organizations "placed teams of journalists on Karr's flight from Bangkok to the United States and chronicled his dining experience" of champagne, fried king prawns and roast duck.
This is a child's brutal short-lived life and even more horrible death and these hucksters are talking about king prawns and roast duck. It boggles the mind. Barbarous.
Journalists are whores, but we knew that. Sorry to put it so bluntly, but there it is. It's silly to report on his dining experience, though I can't say that I wouldn't have ordered prawns and champagne if I were being arrested for a high profile murder. I feel for the guy, though - obviously he has some unresolved problems.

Congogirl, I remember when I considered being a journalist. I used to have respect for them. Actually, for about a minute I considered going to J-school last year, because this.shit.has.got.to.stop. They are such assholes now, and for what? How does one sleep at night? Is this Cultural Revolution-era China where no one can stand up and call out the insanity, where everyone is afraid not to get in good w/ the jerks running the show? What? What??
I am decidedly unpacifist as regards sexual predators. I will say though that I hope he is not nibbled to death by piranhas or torn apart by lions. However, I retain the right to reneg on either or both of those.
divaj, looks like the taxpayers of Colorado were footing that bill. SIGH. I'm all about paying my taxes, have no problem w/ it, but this is a hard pill to swallow. I wonder if we'll hear something in the news about why the DA felt s/he had to act so quickly, &c. Predators flee, I suppose. I actually know v. little about the circumstances. I was most struck by the insane media frenzy. Sick, sick world.

Oh, don't get me wrong ae, I don't feel for pedophiles, but the guy has some problems if he's turning himself in for a murder that he didn't commit just to get some attention.
Hadn't even thought about who paid for the first class ticket...
