Ex-F.B.I. Aide Claims He's 'Deep Throat' in Magazine Article.
NEW YORK (AP) -- A former top official at the F-B-I has reportedly admitted he was "Deep Throat" -- the unidentified source used by two Washington Post reporters to help uncover the Watergate scandal that led to Richard Nixon's resignation.
According to Vanity Fair magazine, the admission comes from W. Mark Felt, who was the number-two man at the F-B-I in the early 1970s.
Reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein had vowed never to reveal the identity of their source until after his death.
Felt is now 91, and living in California.
Wow. I don't know what to think. I have no real idea about who Deep Throat could be, nor would I want to venture a guess, but here's what I wish, wish, wish: that W. Mark Felt would stand up and condemn the compliant steno pool, otherwise known as the US media, and excoriate them for them complicity in dumbing down and distracting this country from the reckless, divisive, and devastating policies of this madministration (of any administration, for that matter).
I would love a person who felt the patriotic duty to expose government corruption at the highest levels to now comment on the current endless list of government corruption at highest levels and how the media has abrogated its duty to shine a sustained and unwavering light on goverment corruption.
It's as if our media suffers from a combination of starry-eyed paralysis (remember the reports on how "sexy" Donald R*msfeld was??) and the worst kind of ADD, skipping from one irrelevance to another. Energy Task Force, falsifying EPA reports, paid shills in the media, voter fraud, Downing Street Memo, responsibility for Abu Ghraib. In this modern era of infotainment where important and damning stories are buried on p. A18, who will shout from the front page again and again and again? Who will stand on behalf of the people?
Here's one. Here's another. Great, we've got two. Any other takers?
UPDATE: More at MSNBC. The article from which this is drawn is in the June issue of Vanity Fair. What a scoop for that mag writer, though Felt seems conflicted at best about what he did. Hmm.

If Felt is having excess qualms of conscience, maybe he could send some over to your boy Rumsfeld. Things grow stranger and stranger with your boyfriend Donald, AE of NC. Oy. Let the Buyer Beware
